Why subscription math is deceptive
Vendors price subscriptions to minimise the number on screen. $5/week sounds trivial; $260/year is more sobering. Quarterly billing hides the annual cost behind infrequent charges. This calculator converts any billing frequency into a consistent monthly and annual view.
Worked example. A $15/month subscription costs $180/year. A $5/week one costs $260/year — nearly 45% more, even though the weekly amount feels smaller.
The formula
Annual cost = amount × multiplier, where multipliers are: weekly × 52, monthly × 12, quarterly × 4, yearly × 1. Monthly equivalent = annual ÷ 12.
Subscription audit tip
List every subscription with this calculator and sort by annual cost. Most people find at least one forgotten service they no longer use. Cancelling even two mid-tier subscriptions often saves several hundred dollars a year.
